What is Shadowban?
A shadowban is an account-level suppression that makes all of a user's content invisible to everyone except themselves. The banned user can still log in, post, and comment — they see their own content normally — but no other user sees anything they submit. Reddit applies shadowbans at the sitewide level (handled by Reddit admins, not moderators) for ToS violations such as spam, vote manipulation, or operating multiple accounts in coordinated ways. Unlike a subreddit ban, the user receives no notification; the silence itself is the signal.
Why it matters for Reddit marketing
Shadowbanning is the nuclear option Reddit uses against spam and promotional abuse. A shadowbanned marketing account produces zero results while still consuming your time and content budget. Because the account appears functional to its owner, teams can run entire campaigns believing they are getting traction when every post has been silently buried. Early detection is the only defense.
How RedditGrow helps
RedditGrow runs automatic shadowban checks on all connected Reddit accounts by querying the account's recent posts through a logged-out session and comparing visibility. If a discrepancy is detected, the account is flagged in your dashboard and removed from the active posting queue before wasting further effort.
