What is AutoModerator?

AutoModerator (AutoMod) is a sitewide bot that subreddit moderators configure using YAML-based rules to automatically filter, approve, remove, or flag posts and comments. It runs before human moderators see content and acts within seconds of submission. Common AutoMod configurations include: minimum karma thresholds, account age requirements, keyword blocklists (removing posts that contain 'promo code' or 'discount'), domain blocklists, and spam pattern detection. AutoMod actions are silent by default — the post simply disappears without notifying the author unless a removal reason is configured.

Why it matters for Reddit marketing

AutoMod is the reason that well-crafted posts sometimes receive zero engagement — they were never seen. A post caught by AutoMod enters a moderation queue where it sits until a human moderator reviews it (which may take hours or days) or it expires. For marketers, understanding AutoMod means reverse-engineering subreddit rules to identify which phrase patterns, account conditions, or link types will trigger invisible removal. This is the difference between posts that appear and posts that disappear.

How RedditGrow helps

RedditGrow pre-screens generated responses against common AutoMod trigger patterns — spam keywords, excessive links, promotional language — and rewrites flagged phrases before submission. Account eligibility checks (karma + age) also prevent posts from being queued for subreddits where the account would be auto-filtered.
