What is Grounding?
Grounding is the process by which an AI system bases its generated answer on retrieved external sources rather than on the model's parametric memory alone. A grounded answer is constructed from documents the system fetched at query time — web pages, a knowledge base, or a search index — and typically attaches citations to those sources. Grounding reduces hallucination and is what makes a model's answer attributable: when ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Google AI Overviews cite a page, that page was part of the grounding set the model retrieved and trusted for that query.
Why it matters for Reddit marketing
Getting cited by AI is, mechanically, the act of being included in the grounding set. If your content is extractable and lives where the system retrieves from, it can be grounded; if it isn't, the model answers from memory and your brand never appears.
How RedditGrow helps
RedditGrow concentrates on the sources AI systems most often retrieve for grounding — Reddit threads chief among them — so your brand is present in the document set the model pulls before it writes the answer.
